Jesus sanctioning the right to arms?

Matthew 22:36
36And [Jesus] said to [His disciples], "But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one.


Could this verse be Jesus sanctioning our right to arm ourselves for defense? He here instructs His disciples to buy swords to arm themselves as they set out across the countryside to spread His message.
